Neighborhood grumpy grandpa cat causes a chaotic midnight chase through a house's basement after breaking in and confusing the resident cats: 'As far as I know, he's still in my basement.'

This is my basement. This is not my cat
  • 03
    YANNA
  • 04
Adding a little context: I currently care for five cats: four striped, one black. I know this grumpy old man from my neighborhood,
  • 05
I'm involved in my local stray population and helping control it, and I know he's well cared for by my community.
  • 06
So... One of my cats has a bad habit of getting out of the house, So when he does I usually leave open a side door
  • 07
(that leads to the basement so that he can scratch at the door and I can let him back into the house without letting any of his siblings out).
  • 08
While I was letting my cat that likes to get out back into the house, another one of my cats (solid black) ran downstairs.
  • 09
So I shut the door and waited for him to scratch at it but I didn't realize that I didn't shut the side door to the outside all the way.

The neighborhood Grandpa cat decided he didn't want to be in the rain anymore tonight. Imagine my confusion when I saw a
  • 11
striped cat in my window and my further confusion when I saw all four of my striped cats run past me down the stairs to go stare at the *OTHER* striped cat...

What followed suit was a chaotic 10 minutes of me trying to wrangle the five cats that I do own back into the part of my house that I can fully control so that I
  • 14
could leave the door open and allow the grumpy old man to leave. As far as I know he's still in my basement.
  • 15
Cataholic445 Well Grumpy Old Grandpa cat says the contrary! He IS your cat now.
  • 16
GingerAphrodite OP That is not only not possible, but I'm pretty sure he would shot me in the kneecaps if he had opposable thumbs and I tried to keep him. When I see him outdoors I jump between calling him Gramps or "The Don" lol
  • 17
nan-a-table-for-one Well I hope you leave him some snackies at least!
  • 18
GingerAphrodite OP I didn't, but only because I gave him an entire can of wet food earlier today and I know the neighbor has dry food on her front porch for the local strays and I don't want to encourage him to stay
  • 19
nan-a-table-for-one Well I sorta meant in general. Glad he's getting a little num nums. We have to watch out for our senior citizens. Lol.
  • 20
GingerAphrodite OP Oh absolutely. The day that I first fed him I was genuinely concerned that he might be mostly deaf and mostly blind, but after interacting with him more I think he just can't be bothered and doesn't care
  • 21
fuzzus628 Scrungly man! Also, his basement now.
  • 22
GingerAphrodite OP He can't, I already have five and I'm waiting for a chance to give to their new home because it's five states away lol. I've already done my part to help the stray population in this neighborhood

Pitiful Night3852 So you thought. The CDS is saying that the 'grumpy old cat likes your basement better than getting wet and has been informed...either by your cat(s) or just the CDS that inside can be a large improvement over wandering the neighborhood
  • 24
JiveChicken00 Yeah, I'm not sure it's your basement either.
  • 25
GingerAphrodite OP I mean technically it's my parents', but it's definitely not his LOL they barely tolerate the current cats
  • 26
Sea_Bison_6929 He looks grumpy a fr. Is really grumpy or is it just his face?
  • 27
GingerAphrodite OP Kind of grumpy but that's mostly just his face. He doesn't hiss or growl but he's kind of skittish and doesn't like being touched. I think he was recently hit by a car but he's been healing up really well, but he acts like he's used 10 of his nine lives

FormidableMistress That's his basement now. The CDS gave me 4 piebald cats. I saw another piebald cat walking down my street the other day and told my friend "I haven't seen this cat before and I hope he's not a stray, but I can tell by his coat he wants to come inside my house."
  • 29
GingerAphrodite OP The CDS already gave me five babies that are probably his... I already TNRd mama.... he will not be staying and he's well cared for by my neighborhood ②
